 The Asian American Hotel Owners Association has elected new board members to complete its board of directors for the 2013-2014 term. The elections were held on March 29 during the 2013 AAHOA Annual Convention & Trade Show at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. The AAHOA membership elected Bharat "Bruce" Patel, CHO, as the association's newest secretary. Prior to his election to serve as secretary, Patel served as a Director at Large for AAHOA. The organization also recognized its annual award winners at the convention.

Hyatt Hotels Corp. opened its fifth brand in India with the official rebranding of five hotels to "Hyatt." These hotels include: Hyatt Bangalore MG Road, Hyatt Hyderabad Gachibowli, Hyatt Pune, Hyatt Amritsar and Hyatt Ahmedabad. The new Hyatt hotels join the 11 properties open throughout India operating under the Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Place brands.

 Chester's has opened its newest location in Gurdon, Ark., in the Gurdon Quick Mart, which is one of Paramount Shops' four Quick Mart locations that serve Chester's fried chicken. At Gurdon Quick Mart, there will be menu items such as Chester's tenders, boneless wings, Chester's signature potato wedges and biscuits.

 Hyatt Hotels Corp., Chesapeake Lodging Trust and Real Hospitality Group have opened Hyatt Place New York/Midtown-South, marking the first Hyatt Place property to debut in New York City. The new Midtown Manhattan location represents a move into downtown urban locations for the upscale select service brand, which has grown by nearly 18 percent in the past three years, according to Hyatt Hotels.

 Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries is bringing its fresh-cut Boardwalk Fries and made-to-order burgers to their new location in Gresham, Ore. The restaurant, which is slated to open in March and is owned by Lucky Patel, will be the chain’s third location in the Portland area – all of which are owned by Patel. |

 Following the successful opening of three stores in Mumbai in October 2012, Tata Starbucks Ltd., the 50/50 joint venture between Starbucks Coffee Co. and Tata Global Beverages Ltd., opened the first Starbucks store in New Delhi. In India, Starbucks offers Indian Espresso Roast, which is a hallmark feature of all Starbucks stores in the market and highlights the quality espresso available in India, the company said.
"We are delighted to open our doors to customers here, in the capital city of New Delhi; extending the Starbucks Experience to more customers in India," said John Culver, president of Starbucks Coffee China and Asia Pacific.  Starwood Hotels & Resorts has announced a continued focus on growth in India and South Asia. Starwood’s legacy in the region dates back to 1973, and the company currently operates 34 hotels with 24 hotels in the pipeline. It aims to have 100 hotels under operation, development and management contracts signed by 2015 with eight out of nine Starwood brands flying their flag in India.

 Sahara India Pariwar, an India-based conglomerate, has completed the purchase of a 75 percent interest in the iconic Plaza Hotel New York from real estate company El Ad US Holdings' position in the hotel with a total valuation of $575 million. The acquisition includes 230 hotel rooms and retail space. Kingdom Holding Co., controlled by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, will retain its 25 percent stake in the property.

 Earlier this week, Dunkin' Donuts opened its first two restaurants in India — both in New Delhi. In 2011, Dunkin' Donuts signed a franchise agreement with Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd. to develop 500 restaurants across the country over the next 15 years. The agreement marked the largest international store development commitment in Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin' Donuts' history.

Hyatt Hotels Corp. and Chartered Hampi Hotels Pvt. Ltd. opened the Hyatt Place Hampi in Karnataka. The hotel introduces the Hyatt Place brand to India and follows Hyatt Place San Jose/Pinares in Costa Rica as the second Hyatt Place hotel to open outside the United States. More than 20 additional Hyatt Place hotels have been previously announced throughout the country, including Hyatt Place hotels in Nagpur and Pune.

 Paramount Hospitality Management will start construction during the first quarter of 2013 on a 92-unit, all suites TownePlace by Marriott property in the Atlanta suburb of Newnan, Georgia. The hotel, which will be on a 2.5 acre site acquired this week, is scheduled to open during the first quarter of 2014.

Hyatt Hotels Corp. said that a Hyatt affiliate has signed a management agreement with IHHR Hospitality Private Ltd. for five Ista hotels in India to be re-branded by Hyatt. Under the agreement, the fully operational Ista hotels will be known as Hyatt Bangalore, Hyatt Pune, Hyatt Hyderabad, Hyatt Ahmedabad and Hyatt Amritsar. The branding effort is expected to be completed by March 2013.
