Kolkata– After almost 18 years, Hindustan Copper Ltd has formally reopened its Kendadih mine in Jharkhand’s Ghatsila, the company said in a statement here on Wednesday.
The mine, opened on December 11 in the presence of Jamshedpur Lok Sabha member Bidyut Baran Mahato, was closed in February 2000, due to economic reasons, the company said.
“However, considering the present favourable market conditions, the company has reworked the mine business plan.
“After obtaining all the statutory clearances like Environment and Forest clearances, including execution of Mining Lease Deed from Central and State Governments, the company completed the de-watering activity, installed and commissioned the mining infrastructure and restarted the mining activities,” the statement said.
On completion of the mine development activities, Kendadih would produce 2.25 lakhs MT of copper ore annually. (IANS)
