NEW DELHI— Global PC shipments grew 4.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, reaching 63.2 million units, according to preliminary data released by Gartner on Tuesday.

Shipments totaled 63.225 million units in the April–June period, up from 60.541 million units in the same quarter last year.

“In the second quarter of 2025, enterprise demand outpaced consumer demand, underpinned by Windows 11 migrations and pandemic-era desktop renewals, while consumer refreshes slowed as buyers deferred purchases,” said Rishi Padhi, Research Principal at Gartner.

Lenovo retained its position as the world’s top PC vendor, commanding a 26.9 percent share of the global market. It was followed by HP Inc. with 22.3 percent, Dell with 15.6 percent, and Apple at 9 percent.

“There were no major changes in the top five vendor rankings worldwide in the second quarter of 2025; meanwhile, Lenovo saw a decent growth in global PC shipments among the top five vendors at 13.9 per cent YoY,” the report noted.

Among the top vendors, all except Dell posted shipment gains ranging from 3 percent to nearly 14 percent. Dell’s shipments dropped by 3 percent to 9.832 million units, down from 10.140 million units in Q2 2024.

Lenovo led with 17.038 million units shipped, followed by HP at 14.124 million units. Apple’s shipments came in at 5.699 million units.

Looking ahead, Gartner expects continued growth in the PC market, albeit at a slower pace. “PC shipments are forecast to rise 2.4% in 2025, propelled by a tariff-driven front-loaded inventory surge in the first half of 2025 in the U.S., and ongoing Windows 11 replacement cycles in the rest of the world,” Padhi said.

However, shipment growth is expected to flatten in the latter half of the year as vendors draw down existing stock, raising the potential for excess inventory by year-end. (Source: IANS)
