New Delhi— India has become a cornerstone in Walmart’s global journey, with two decades of deepening partnerships aimed at empowering local businesses and communities, said Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart Inc., during an event in New Delhi on Tuesday.

“India is an important part of Walmart’s story,” McMillon stated. “Over the past 20 years, we’ve strengthened and expanded our presence here, driving inclusive growth and creating value for customers, partners, and communities.”

Walmart’s operations in India span a wide range of initiatives, including support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), boosting exports, advancing digital payment infrastructure, and promoting innovation in e-commerce and technology. The company said its teams in India are developing solutions that are not only reshaping retail in the country but also influencing global operations.

“India reflects Walmart’s commitment to creating shared value,” McMillon added. “We’re proud to work with partners who are helping shape a more inclusive and resilient future.”

The event featured a curated exhibit showcasing entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and partners involved in Walmart’s various programs across the country.

Kath McLay, President and CEO of Walmart International, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the impact of local innovation and long-term collaboration.

“We’re building enduring partnerships in one of the most dynamic and transformative markets in the world,” McLay said. “Companies like Flipkart and PhonePe are creating tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of Indian consumers across e-commerce, digital payments, logistics, and more.”

These homegrown solutions, she noted, are not only driving access and opportunity across India’s diverse communities but are also helping inform Walmart’s strategies in other international markets.

“From enabling MSMEs and accelerating exports to enhancing the customer experience, we remain deeply committed to growing with India,” McLay added. “In the years ahead, we aim to deliver long-term value to even more customers, partners, and communities.”

Over the past two decades, Walmart has built a robust footprint in India across digital commerce, global sourcing, technology development, financial inclusion, and community initiatives. The company has also contributed to job creation and helped Indian businesses tap into both domestic and global markets. (Source: IANS)
