NEW DELHI — JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has warned that ongoing wars and rising geopolitical tensions represent the greatest risk facing both the global economy and the banking sector, highlighting growing uncertainty driven by conflicts in Ukraine, Iran, and the broader Middle East.
In his annual letter to shareholders, Dimon pointed to a wide range of challenges, with geopolitical instability topping the list.
“The challenges we all face are significant. The list is long but at the top are the terrible ongoing war and violence in Ukraine, the current war in Iran and the broader hostilities in the Middle East, terrorist activity and growing geopolitical tensions, importantly with China,” Dimon said.
He described the current global environment as “the realm of uncertainty,” where outcomes are difficult to predict and can have far-reaching economic consequences.
“Even in troubled times, we have confidence that America will do what it has always done — look to the values that have defined our singular nation and sustained our leadership of the free world,” he added.
Dimon also said the United States’ upcoming 250th anniversary offers “the perfect time” to recommit to core principles such as freedom, liberty, and opportunity.
He cautioned that current geopolitical developments could shape the future global economic order, while also acknowledging the inherent unpredictability of such shifts.
Turning to trade policy, Dimon said the trade disputes triggered by tariffs under U.S. President Donald Trump remain unresolved, adding to economic uncertainty.
He also highlighted the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, describing its pace of adoption as faster than any previous technological shift. While calling AI’s impact “transformational,” he urged caution, noting that its long-term effects remain uncertain.
Dimon’s comments underscore growing concern among global business leaders about the combined impact of geopolitical instability, trade tensions, and technological disruption on economic growth. (Source: IANS)
