New Delhi–Meta has restored a video posted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after acknowledging that it was removed from Facebook by mistake.
“The content was removed in error and has since been restored,” a Meta spokesperson said Tuesday.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology summoned senior Meta and Instagram executives over the temporary removal, according to the report.
The video, released July 23, featured Modi addressing young people during a 36-day student protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party. In the address, he said the government would announce tougher measures against exam paper leaks at an upcoming Cabinet meeting.
The video had received millions of views before Facebook briefly restricted access early Tuesday. Initial reports suggested the platform had acted in response to a legal request, but Meta later said the removal was an error.
Modi’s video also generated significant engagement on Instagram, reportedly helping his account gain about 1 million followers overnight and bringing his total to nearly 101 million.
