New Delhi— The Gemini app now boasts over 400 million monthly active users, with strong growth and engagement driven especially by the 2.5 series of AI models, according to Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet.

Speaking at the Google I/O 2025 conference in the U.S., Pichai highlighted the app’s rapid expansion. “More than seven million developers are now building with Gemini — five times more than this time last year,” he noted. “Gemini usage on Vertex AI has increased 40-fold.”

Pichai also revealed that usage of Gemini 2.5 Pro within the app has surged by 45 percent.

“This time last year, we were processing 9.7 trillion tokens per month across our products and APIs. Today, we’re processing over 480 trillion — a 50-fold increase,” he added.

He emphasized that this exponential growth marks a significant shift in the AI landscape. “We’re entering a new phase of the AI platform transformation, where decades of research are finally becoming real for individuals, businesses, and communities around the world.”

Since its launch last year, AI Overviews have scaled to more than 1.5 billion users across 200 countries and territories.

“In key markets like the U.S. and India, AI Overviews are driving over 10 percent growth in the types of queries that trigger them — and this trend continues to accelerate,” Pichai said. “For users seeking a fully AI-powered search experience, we’re introducing a brand-new feature: AI Mode.”

Describing AI Mode as a “complete reimagining of Search,” Pichai explained that it enables users to ask longer and more complex questions. “Early testers are already submitting queries that are two to three times longer than traditional searches, and they’re continuing the conversation with follow-up questions,” he said.

“I’m excited to announce that AI Mode is rolling out to everyone in the U.S. starting today,” he continued. “Powered by our latest Gemini models, our AI responses now deliver the speed, quality, and accuracy users expect from Search — and they’re the fastest in the industry.”

Additionally, Gemini 2.5 is now being integrated into Search in the U.S. this week.

To further enhance capabilities, the company is introducing Deep Think, an advanced reasoning mode built into Gemini 2.5 Pro. “It leverages our latest breakthroughs in AI reasoning, including parallel thinking techniques,” Pichai said. (Source: IANS)
