New Delhi— India and Denmark have signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their partnership in the clean energy sector, reaffirming a shared commitment to accelerating the green transition.

The agreement was signed by India’s Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal and Denmark’s Ambassador Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen in the presence of Power Minister Manohar Lal. It builds on the existing MoU signed in 2020 and extends the collaboration beyond its original 2025 end date.

The renewed pact supports India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and focuses on advancing knowledge sharing and technological cooperation in areas such as power system modeling, renewable energy integration, cross-border electricity trade, and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

Minister Manohar Lal called the agreement a symbol of mutual commitment to sustainable development, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations.

India’s clean energy capacity has seen a significant rise, with total installed renewable capacity reaching 220.10 GW as of March 31, 2025—up from 198.75 GW the previous year. Solar energy led the charge, adding 23.83 GW in FY 2024–25, raising the total solar capacity to 105.65 GW.

Wind energy also saw strong growth with 4.15 GW added, bringing the total to 50.04 GW. Bioenergy installations reached 11.58 GW, while small hydro projects now total 5.10 GW, with more capacity under development.

The MoU also encourages expert exchanges, joint training programs, and study tours to facilitate deeper engagement between the two countries as they work toward cleaner, more resilient energy systems. (Source: IANS)
