Seoul— Samsung Electronics will launch an AI-powered coding assistant called Cline next month in a move aimed at increasing productivity among its software development teams.

According to an internal notice cited by Yonhap News Agency, the tech giant has begun beta testing Cline for employees in its Device eXperience (DX) division, which includes Samsung’s mobile, TV, and home appliances units.

Cline is an open-source AI tool designed to assist developers in writing, editing, and testing code through natural language prompts like “create a login function.” Unlike traditional coding assistants that handle basic tasks, Cline is equipped to support more complex programming needs, offering developers a significant boost in efficiency.

Samsung intends to complete the beta testing phase by the end of June and officially deploy Cline in July. The initiative is part of the company’s broader push to become an AI-driven enterprise. To support this transition, Samsung has created an AI Productivity Innovation Group within the DX division. This new unit acts as a centralized command center for developing and managing AI infrastructure and helping deploy AI tools across business segments.

In parallel, Samsung is preparing for its biannual global strategy meetings, scheduled for June 17–19. These executive-level discussions will cover business performance reviews, strategic planning for the second half of the year, and preparations for 2025.

This year’s agenda will address global uncertainties such as evolving U.S. trade policies under the potential second administration of Donald Trump, as well as ongoing supply chain challenges. Roh Tae-moon, acting head of the DX division, and Jun Young-hyun, head of the Device Solutions (DS) division, are expected to lead the meetings. As in previous years, Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong is not expected to attend.

The DS division, responsible for Samsung’s semiconductor operations, will also explore long-term competitiveness and sales strategies during the closed-door sessions. (Source: IANS)
