NEW DELHI, India — Seven migrant laborers were killed and four others injured after a wall under construction collapsed at a sewage treatment plant site within a residential project in Gurugram on Tuesday evening, officials said.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. at the Signature Global housing project in Sidhrawali village, where construction work was underway.
According to officials, several laborers employed by a private contractor were working at the sewage treatment plant site when a concrete retention wall suddenly gave way, triggering a major soil collapse at the basement level of the structure.
The collapse buried multiple workers beneath debris and soil. Emergency teams rushed to the scene and rescued around 12 to 15 laborers who had been trapped under the rubble. The injured were taken to a hospital in nearby Bhiwadi for treatment.
Doctors at the hospital declared seven workers dead on arrival. The victims were identified as Shiv Shankar, a resident of Banihara; Parmeshwar Mehto from Hondai; Mangal Mehto from Hathi Binda; Bhagirath Gope and Sanjeev Gope from Pohita in Jamshedpur; Satish from Burka Jadthal Nagar in Bharatpur; and Dhananjay Mehto.
Four others were injured in the incident. The injured workers were identified as Indrajeet, Chhotelal and Shivkam Chaudhary, all residents of Nepal, and Deendayal Sharma from Bandikui.
Hospital officials said the injured workers are in stable condition but remain under medical observation.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse. Queries sent to Signature Global regarding the incident had not received a response at the time of publication.
Separately, the real estate developer reported weaker financial results in the third quarter of the current fiscal year. Signature Global posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 45.33 crore for the October–December quarter of FY26, compared with a net profit of Rs 29.13 crore during the same period a year earlier.
The company’s total income also declined to Rs 312.76 crore during the quarter, down from Rs 862.14 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. (Source: IANS)
