New Delhi–Tata Sons Executive Chairman N Chandrasekaran received total compensation of Rs 158.6 crore in fiscal 2026, his highest annual remuneration since the company began disclosing directors’ pay in its financial statements.
According to Tata Sons’ annual report, Chandrasekaran received Rs 17.9 crore in salary and allowances and Rs 140.7 crore in commission.
His cumulative remuneration over the past five financial years has now reached about Rs 685 crore.
Chandrasekaran’s FY26 compensation accounted for nearly 80% of the total amount paid to Tata Sons directors during the year.
He remains one of India’s highest-paid corporate executives, although his compensation was below the Rs 176 crore received by HCLTech CEO C Vijayakumar during the same financial year.
Chandrasekaran’s annual remuneration has increased steadily in recent years. He received Rs 155 crore in FY25 and Rs 134.8 crore in FY24.
The disclosure comes ahead of Tata Sons’ annual general meeting next month, when shareholders are expected to vote on several key resolutions.
Although Chandrasekaran’s current five-year term as Executive Chairman runs through February 2027, he is due to retire by rotation and will need shareholder approval to remain a director on the Tata Sons board.
Tata Sons Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director Saurabh Agrawal was the company’s second-highest-paid executive in FY26, receiving total compensation of Rs 34 crore, including Rs 26 crore in commission.
The company’s other seven board members did not receive remuneration. Six of them, however, received commissions ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 3 crore.
