New Delhi — BMW India on Friday unveiled the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase, its first locally manufactured electric sedan, as the luxury automaker expands its electric vehicle lineup in the country.
The BMW i5 Long Wheelbase will be produced at BMW Group’s Chennai plant. It is the company’s second electric model to be manufactured in India and its first locally produced electric sedan.
Bookings for the vehicle have opened across BMW’s dealer network.
The i5 Long Wheelbase measures 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height, making it the largest and longest sedan in its segment, according to the company. Its 3,105 mm wheelbase is designed to provide additional rear-seat space.
The electric sedan is powered by a motor producing 268 horsepower and can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
It is equipped with an 81.6 kWh high-voltage battery that delivers a claimed driving range of up to 669 kilometers under the Modified Indian Driving Cycle, or MIDC, standard.
BMW said the vehicle comes with a standard two-year, unlimited-kilometer warranty and two years of roadside assistance. Service packages begin at three years or 40,000 kilometers and can be extended to 10 years or 100,000 kilometers. The vehicle warranty can also be extended for up to 10 years.
The launch is part of BMW’s broader push into India’s premium electric vehicle market as demand for luxury EVs continues to grow.
BMW Group India also offers financing options through its BMW Smart Finance program, including flexible monthly payments, lower interest rates on select models, assured buy-back options and end-of-term flexibility. (Source: IANS)
