New Delhi — Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday urged Indian students to develop skills in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and other emerging technologies, saying young people will play a crucial role in shaping the country’s economic future.
Speaking at the inauguration of Shri Ram College of Commerce’s (SRCC) Centenary Conclave, Goyal encouraged students to take responsibility for their education, pursue ambitious goals and prepare for a rapidly changing employment landscape.
He said investments in manufacturing, technological innovation and workforce development would create new opportunities for young Indians while strengthening the country’s position in the global economy.
Goyal emphasized the importance of developing practical applications for emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and large language models, that could benefit businesses and ordinary citizens.
He urged students to go beyond simply adopting new technologies and instead take an active role in developing innovative solutions.
Drawing comparisons with India’s emergence as a global information technology powerhouse during the 1990s and 2000s, Goyal said the next generation has an opportunity to lead advancements in AI and other transformative technologies.
The minister also stressed the importance of lifelong learning, encouraging students to continuously upgrade their skills and remain adaptable as industries and employment requirements evolve.
He said young professionals should identify opportunities to use technology to improve business operations, simplify regulatory processes and make everyday life easier for citizens.
Goyal linked technological advancement and workforce development to the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, an initiative aimed at transforming India into a developed nation by the centenary of its independence.
He said sustained effort, ambitious thinking and a willingness to confront new challenges would help young Indians contribute to that goal while creating better opportunities for future generations.
The minister also highlighted the importance of India’s cultural heritage, traditions and shared civic responsibilities in guiding the country’s development.
He encouraged students to define their personal aspirations while recognizing that individual achievements and collective efforts could contribute to India’s emergence as a major global economic power.
Goyal praised the entrepreneurial spirit of young Indians, particularly startup founders who are developing innovative solutions, taking financial risks and addressing challenges across industries.
He said the combination of technological expertise, entrepreneurship and continued investment in skills would be essential to India’s long-term economic growth and competitiveness. (Source: IANS)
