NEW DELHI–Apple unveiled its new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip on Tuesday, introducing improvements in processing power, graphics performance, artificial intelligence capabilities and wireless connectivity.
The latest MacBook Pro is designed for college students, business professionals and content creators who require high-performance computing for everyday tasks and demanding workloads.
According to Apple, the M6-powered laptop delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance and up to 25% faster AI processing compared with the previous-generation MacBook Pro equipped with the M5 chip.
The M6 processor features a 12-core central processing unit (CPU), which Apple claims includes the world’s fastest CPU core. The company said the upgraded architecture improves responsiveness in routine productivity applications while providing additional computing power for professional software and complex workflows.
The chip also incorporates a 12-core graphics processing unit (GPU), designed to improve performance in graphics-intensive applications and AI-related computing tasks.
Apple said customers upgrading from older MacBook Pro models powered by the M1 chip could experience even greater improvements, including up to 11 times faster graphics performance and up to 13 times faster AI processing.
A major focus of the new laptop is its ability to run artificial intelligence applications directly on the device.
The M6 chip includes additional Neural Accelerators integrated into its GPU, along with a dual 16-core Neural Engine. These components are designed to accelerate machine learning operations and other AI workloads without requiring constant access to cloud-based processing.
Apple said the enhanced hardware will support Apple Intelligence features across macOS and compatible applications, including the ability to execute large language models locally on the laptop.
The company emphasized that on-device AI processing can help protect user privacy by allowing certain tasks to be completed without transmitting information to external servers.
Beyond improvements in computing performance, the new MacBook Pro introduces support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, providing faster wireless connectivity and improved communication with compatible devices and networks.
Apple has also upgraded the laptop’s storage performance to support professional workflows involving large files, media production, project exports and computationally intensive AI applications.
The faster storage capabilities are intended to reduce processing delays for users working with high-resolution video, complex design projects and large datasets.
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro will ship with macOS 27, Apple’s latest desktop operating system, and will be offered in space black and silver finishes.
Preorders for the M6-powered laptop will open October 28, with general availability beginning November 6.
“The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the pro laptop of choice for a wide range of users — from college students, to business professionals across every industry, to multidisciplinary creators doing it all on one device,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering.
The launch represents Apple’s latest effort to expand the processing and AI capabilities of its Mac lineup as demand grows for computers capable of handling sophisticated applications and increasingly complex workloads locally. (Source: IANS)
