Bengaluru— Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran was notably absent from the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Thursday, marking his second consecutive absence from shareholder meetings of Tata Group companies. He also missed the AGM of Tata Consumer Products on Wednesday.
TCS Company Secretary Yashaswin Sheth informed shareholders that Chandrasekaran was unable to attend due to “some exigencies.” While no official explanation was provided, sources suggest his absence is tied to the recent Air India tragedy. The airline, which is part of the Tata Group, was involved in a devastating crash last week during a flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick.
The accident claimed the lives of at least 270 people, including 241 passengers and crew members. Chandrasekaran, who served as CEO of TCS for eight years before becoming Chairman of Tata Sons in 2017, has been actively monitoring the aftermath of the disaster.
In his absence, Independent Director Keki Mistry was appointed to chair the TCS AGM. Addressing shareholders, Mistry acknowledged the profound grief felt across the Tata Group.
“This is a very difficult time for us at the Tata Group,” Mistry said. “We are all deeply saddened. This is an unimaginable tragedy that has resulted in so many lives lost. Words offer little comfort in such moments.”
He emphasized the Group’s support for those affected. “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. The Tata Group stands in solidarity with everyone impacted by this tragedy,” he added.
The meeting began with the TCS board observing a minute of silence in memory of the victims. (Source: IANS)
