MUMBAI — Singer Arijit Singh has stepped back into playback singing for Hindi cinema after being persuaded by actor Aamir Khan, months after announcing that he was stepping away from the industry.

The development was revealed on Monday when the makers of the upcoming film Ek Din shared the title track on social media, featuring Singh’s voice. The video shows Khan visiting Singh at his hometown in Murshidabad shortly after the singer made his retirement announcement.

In the video, Khan is seen asking Singh whether he was taking a sabbatical or had quit playback singing altogether before urging him to reconsider. “Aisa mat kar yaar, hum log ka kya hoga,” Khan says, appealing to the singer not to step away from Hindi cinema.

Khan traveled to Murshidabad on February 3 to personally meet Singh and convince him to lend his voice to the film. He later shared a poster thanking the singer for agreeing to sing the title track of Ek Din, effectively putting speculation about Singh’s retirement to rest.

According to the production team, Khan stayed in Murshidabad for four days with Singh and his family to persuade him to reconsider his decision and personally request his participation in the project. Ek Din stars Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan and is being produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions.

The film marks a reunion between Aamir Khan and filmmaker Mansoor Khan after a long gap, reviving one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated creative partnerships. The duo previously collaborated on films including Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Akele Hum Akele Tum, and Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na.

Ek Din is directed by Sunil Pandey and produced by Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan, and Aparna Purohit. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026. (Source: IANS)
