MUMBAI, India — Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt made her debut as a presenter at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, adding an Indian touch to the ceremony with a brief speech in Hindi while presenting the award for Best Film Not in the English Language.
The event was held at London’s Royal Festival Hall, where Bhatt opened with a “Namaskar” before explaining in English that she had announced the category in Hindi, noting that while films are made in many languages, cinema itself is a universal one.
She went on to introduce the nominees, which included It Was Just an Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sirat, and The Voice of Hind Rajab.
Speaking on the red carpet earlier, Bhatt said her daughter Raha, now three, is her biggest source of inspiration, adding that watching her dance to her songs makes her appreciate life more deeply.
The ceremony featured a wide lineup of international presenters, and the Manipuri-language film “Boong,” backed by Farhan Akhtar, won the Best Children’s & Family Film award.
Bhatt will next appear in “Alpha,” and is currently filming “Love And War.”
