Khajuraho–Regular flight operations at Khajuraho Airport are expected to resume in September after being suspended for nearly two months because of airline scheduling and commercial considerations, Airport Director Santosh Singh said Tuesday.
Singh said the suspension was not related to any infrastructure problems at the airport. He attributed it to factors including aircraft availability, network restructuring, crew management and slot allocation.
“We expect regular flight services to resume from September,” Singh said.
The return of scheduled flights is expected to improve access to Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its historic temple complex and a major destination for domestic and international tourists.
Singh said the airport has remained fully operational during the suspension and has continued to improve passenger facilities.
Khajuraho Airport recently ranked first in the Airports Authority of India’s Customer Satisfaction Index survey, based on passenger feedback.
“The recognition reflects the quality of passenger amenities, cleanliness, safety and services being provided at the airport,” Singh said.
The airport has added more than 25 passenger amenities, including a children’s play area, a library, free Wi-Fi, a baby care and feeding room, an electric-vehicle charging station, automated parking, prepaid taxi service, a tourist assistance center, mobile charging points, upgraded restrooms, accessible infrastructure and a VIP lounge.
Nearly 40,000 passengers traveled through Khajuraho Airport from January through June this year, Singh said.
Annual passenger traffic rose from 15,701 in 2022 to 50,300 in 2023. The airport handled 49,715 passengers in 2024 and 51,543 in 2025.
Khajuraho Airport has a 2,286-meter runway, two jet bridges, 10 aircraft parking stands, a Category I Instrument Landing System, DVOR/DME navigation equipment, a modern air traffic control system and a terminal designed to handle up to 1.5 million passengers annually. A radar surveillance facility is also planned.
Singh said the airport’s upgraded infrastructure and expanded amenities would improve the travel experience once regular flights return while supporting tourism and the local economy. (Source: IANS)
