Mumbai–Sundaram Clayton Limited reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 59 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with a loss of Rs 58 crore a year earlier.
Consolidated revenue rose 16% to Rs 592 crore in the first quarter of fiscal 2027 from Rs 512 crore in the same period last year, according to a stock exchange filing Tuesday.
The Chennai-based company said higher costs for raw materials, fuel and freight continued to weigh on operating performance.
On a standalone basis, Sundaram Clayton reported a net profit of Rs 17 crore for the quarter, largely unchanged from the prior-year period.
The company said India’s automobile industry remained resilient during the quarter, supported by stable macroeconomic conditions, infrastructure investment and sustained consumer demand.
The commercial vehicle segment recorded steady growth, helped by construction activity, infrastructure spending and vehicle replacement demand. Passenger vehicle demand also remained healthy, particularly for sport utility vehicles and hybrids, though some fleet segments remained weak.
Sundaram Clayton also cited signs of recovery in the North American truck market, including stronger fleet replacement demand, higher orders and increased production schedules among original equipment manufacturers.
Retail demand remained below peak levels, but improving order books and production plans pointed to positive momentum, the company said.
Still, Sundaram Clayton warned that high interest rates, weaker freight conditions and geopolitical and trade uncertainties could pose near-term risks.
The company said developments in the Middle East have disrupted global commodity and logistics markets, contributing to higher aluminum, energy and freight costs and putting pressure on margins.
Sundaram Clayton said it is taking steps to strengthen supply-chain resilience and maintain operations. It is also increasing production across its manufacturing facilities in line with customer demand and expectations for a recovery in the North American truck market.
Shares of Sundaram Clayton closed Tuesday at Rs 1,310.40 on the BSE, down Rs 82.90, or 5.95%, from the previous close. (Source: IANS)
