New Delhi— Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the majority of iPhones sold in the United States during the June quarter will be manufactured in India, as the tech giant continues to shift its supply chain away from China.

Speaking during an earnings call following Apple’s strong March quarter results, Cook emphasized that current U.S. tariffs are based on a product’s country of origin. “For June, we expect the majority of iPhones sold in the U.S. will originate from India, while nearly all iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and AirPods will come from Vietnam,” he said.

However, Cook noted that China will remain the country of origin for the vast majority of Apple products sold outside the U.S.

He also clarified that most Apple products—including the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro—are currently not subject to the reciprocal global tariffs announced in April.

Despite that, Apple anticipates a $900 million increase in costs this quarter due to U.S. tariffs. “This estimate is based on existing global tariff policies, which could still change,” Cook added, stressing the uncertainty surrounding potential future trade developments.

Looking ahead, Cook revealed that Apple expects to source over $19 billion worth of chips from suppliers across a dozen U.S. states in 2025, including tens of millions of advanced chips from Arizona.

He also highlighted the recent release of iOS 18.4, which expands Apple Intelligence to more languages including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese, as well as localized English for Singapore and India. (Source: IANS)
