NEW DELHI, India — Google on Wednesday launched a new artificial intelligence-powered photo editing feature in India that allows users to edit images in Google Photos by simply describing the changes using voice or text.
With the new capability, users can open a photo and tap “Help me edit” to make changes through natural language prompts.
“Now in India! Edit your images in Google Photos by simply asking. We’re rolling out the ability to edit your images by simply describing the edits you want using your voice or text. And, with a little help from advanced Gemini capabilities, Photos brings your vision to life,” Google said in a blog post.
The company said users can request edits such as removing sunglasses, opening someone’s eyes, or making a person smile.
“You can now also ask Photos to remove a friend’s sunglasses, open their eyes, or make them smile. The feature uses images from your private face groups to generate accurate, personalised edits of the people in your library,” Google said.
The feature is available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu, Bengali, and Gujarati on Android devices with at least 4GB of RAM running Android 8.0 or higher.
Google also introduced three additional features alongside the launch: conversational editing, personalised edits, and Nano Banana.
Conversational editing allows users to switch between tools and sliders by describing desired changes, such as “make the background blurry,” “remove the glare,” or “make the colours pop.”
Personalised edits enable users to ask Gemini to make specific changes involving people in photos, such as “remove [name’s] sunglasses” or “make [name] smile.” The system uses images from private face groups to generate accurate results.
With Nano Banana, users can request creative transformations by describing a new visual style, allowing images to be reimagined in seconds.
To improve transparency around AI-generated content, Google said it is adding support for C2PA Content Credentials in Google Photos. The feature attaches a permanent digital label that shows a modified image’s origin and edit history. (Source: IANS)
