SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Oracle has begun laying off employees worldwide, with workers across multiple regions reporting early-morning notices informing them their jobs had been terminated.
According to reports, employees started receiving emails around 6 a.m. local time in the United States notifying them that their roles had been eliminated. Many workers shared details of the layoffs on social media, saying the messages came without prior warning.
In one version of the email, the company told employees: “After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change. As a result, today is your last working day.”
The notice also stated that access to company systems would be cut off shortly. “Access to your computer, email, voicemail, and files will be deactivated soon, and you will be unable to log into your computer,” the email said, adding that employees are prohibited from downloading or retaining any confidential company information.
Similar versions of the message, with slightly different wording, were also shared by users on online forums, including Reddit.
Laid-off employees were offered severance packages, contingent on signing termination paperwork. The company said further details would be sent through DocuSign to affected employees’ Oracle email accounts.
“After signing your termination paperwork, you will be eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan. You will receive an email from DocuSign to your Oracle email address with details on your severance and termination date,” the email stated.
Oracle had approximately 162,000 full-time employees as of May 2025.
Reports indicate the company may cut between 20,000 and 30,000 jobs, or about 18 percent of its global workforce, though Oracle has not confirmed the figures. A company spokesperson declined to comment on the layoffs. (Source: IANS)
