NEW DELHI — An Air India flight traveling from San Francisco to Delhi made a precautionary landing in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, after the flight crew suspected a technical issue mid-route, the airline said on Monday.

According to Air India, flight AI174, operating on November 2 from San Francisco to Delhi via Kolkata, landed safely in Mongolia after the crew detected a potential technical problem during the journey.

“The aircraft landed safely at Ulaanbaatar and is undergoing the necessary checks. We are working closely with our partners to support all passengers while we make efforts to get everyone on their way to the destination at the earliest opportunity,” an Air India spokesperson said.

The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, adding, “At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew remains a top priority.”

Meanwhile, Air India recently received a temporary extension of flight duty time limits for its two-pilot Boeing 787 Dreamliner operations on European routes, which have been affected by longer flight paths due to the ongoing closure of Pakistani airspace.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted the extension last week, citing operational reasons. Under the revised limits, the Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) for these two-pilot flights has been extended from 10 hours to 10 hours and 30 minutes, while the Flight Duty Period (FDP) has been increased from 13 hours to 14 hours.

The DGCA clarified that the extension applies only when duty periods are extended after departure, not during flight planning, and is intended to help airlines manage longer European routes until normal airspace access resumes. (Source: IANS)
