NEW DELHI — Maruti Suzuki India said Monday it has started commercial production at the second plant of its Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana, expanding one of its key production hubs.
The second plant has an annual production capacity of 250,000 units, bringing total capacity at the Kharkhoda facility to 500,000 vehicles a year.
With the expansion, Maruti Suzuki’s overall annual production capacity across its plants in Gurugram, Manesar and Kharkhoda in Haryana, along with Hansalpur in Gujarat, has increased to 2.65 million units.
The company said the Kharkhoda facility is expected to become one of Suzuki’s largest four-wheeler manufacturing hubs globally once fully operational, with total capacity of 1 million vehicles a year.
Maruti Suzuki had earlier announced plans to add 500,000 units of production capacity during fiscal 2026-27. The commissioning of the second Kharkhoda plant is part of that strategy.
The automaker currently produces the Brezza compact SUV and the Victoris mid-size SUV at the Kharkhoda facility.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Kharkhoda facility in August 2022.
Maruti Suzuki has been expanding manufacturing capacity as domestic vehicle demand rises and the company increases its focus on exports.
Earlier this month, the company said it had crossed a major milestone by cumulatively dispatching more than 3 million vehicles through the Indian Railways network.
Rail-based dispatches accounted for 5% of the company’s total vehicle dispatches in fiscal 2014-15. That share rose to 26.5% in fiscal 2025-26, the company said.
Shares of Maruti Suzuki India traded lower Monday, falling as much as 2.8% to an intraday low of Rs 12,855 on the BSE. The stock has a 52-week high of Rs 17,371.60 and a 52-week low of Rs 12,019.75 on the exchange. (Source: IANS)
