Mumbai — Noel Tata will step down as chairman of Trent Limited, ending an association of nearly three decades with the Tata Group’s flagship retail company.

Tata announced the decision during the company’s 47th Annual General Meeting, telling shareholders that it would be his final meeting as chairman.

The veteran business leader, who turns 70 in November, is retiring in accordance with Tata Group governance guidelines that set the retirement age for non-executive directors at 70.

Tata joined Trent’s board in 1998 after the company was established by his mother, Simone Tata, following the divestment of Lakme. He became Trent’s first managing director in June 1999 and played a central role in shaping the company’s retail strategy.

During his tenure, Trent grew from a single Westside store into one of India’s largest retail networks, with more than 1,200 stores nationwide. The company also expanded its portfolio through the growth of fashion chain Zudio and supermarket business Star.

In Trent’s fiscal 2026 annual report, Tata described the company’s development as a period of steady evolution and highlighted the role of Zudio and Star in strengthening its position in India’s retail market.

Trent’s revenue rose to Rs 19,701 crore in fiscal 2026, reflecting the scale of the company’s expansion under his leadership.
