New Delhi–The Indian government has appointed senior IAS officer Anurag Jain as chief executive officer of NITI Aayog for a two-year term.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Jain, a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre.
According to an official order, Jain will assume the position immediately and serve for the duration of his approved extension in service. His tenure will continue for two years or until further orders, whichever comes first.
The terms and conditions of his appointment will be the same as those applicable to his predecessor.
Jain brings nearly four decades of administrative experience to the role, having held several senior positions in the central government and the Madhya Pradesh government.
During his career, he has handled major assignments involving infrastructure development, industrial policy, investment promotion and governance reforms.
As CEO, Jain will oversee the operations of NITI Aayog, the government’s primary policy institution, which plays a central role in shaping India’s long-term development strategy.
He will be responsible for promoting evidence-based policymaking, strengthening cooperative and competitive federalism, and coordinating with state governments and central ministries on priority reforms and major initiatives.
Jain takes over as NITI Aayog continues to develop policy recommendations aimed at accelerating economic growth, encouraging innovation, improving governance and advancing the government’s Viksit Bharat vision.
His appointment also comes as NITI Aayog’s high-powered Education to Employment and Enterprise Standing Committee works to identify measures to improve employability, encourage entrepreneurship, strengthen industry-focused skills training and accelerate growth in the services sector.
