New Delhi, April 21, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance on Monday welcomed the progress made toward finalizing a bilateral trade agreement, along with deepening cooperation across key sectors such as energy, defense, and strategic technologies.

Modi hosted Vice President Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance, and their children—Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel—at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg. The meeting marked a follow-up to their previous interaction in February during the AI Summit in Paris, where the two leaders had laid the groundwork for advancing India-U.S. ties.

Reflecting on his visit to Washington, D.C. earlier this year, Prime Minister Modi expressed appreciation for ongoing collaboration and conveyed his greetings to U.S. President Donald Trump. He also noted he is looking forward to welcoming President Trump to India later this year.

The two leaders discussed regional and global developments of mutual interest and reviewed progress in strengthening the strategic partnership between their nations.

Vice President Vance’s visit is his first to India and the first by a sitting American Vice President since Joe Biden’s trip in 2013. During his stay, Vance and his delegation will also visit Jaipur and Agra before returning to Washington on April 24.

In a warm cultural gesture, Vance’s children wore traditional Indian attire for their visit to the Prime Minister’s residence. Earlier in the day, the family visited Delhi’s Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, where they took in the temple’s intricate architecture and its message of faith, family, and harmony.

Following Monday’s talks, Prime Minister Modi hosted the Vance family for a private dinner, extending his best wishes for a meaningful and memorable visit to India. (Source: IANS)
