AHMEDABAD–Indian dairy giant Amul has raised prices for its ghee and butter products nationwide, with a 1-kilogram carton of ghee increasing by Rs 50 and a 500-gram pack of butter becoming Rs 15 more expensive.
The new prices have taken effect immediately and are being reflected on product labels, in retail stores and across online shopping platforms.
Under the revised pricing structure, Amul’s 1-kilogram ghee carton now costs Rs 680, up from Rs 630. The price of a 500-gram pouch of pure ghee has increased by Rs 20, from Rs 325 to Rs 345.
Butter prices have also risen across multiple package sizes. A 100-gram pack now costs Rs 66, compared with Rs 63 previously, while the price of a 500-gram pack has climbed from Rs 310 to Rs 325.
The increases affect consumers across India who purchase Amul’s dairy products for household cooking and other uses.
The latest adjustments follow a price increase for Amul’s fresh milk products earlier this year. In May, the dairy cooperative raised milk prices by Rs 2 per liter across several popular varieties, including Gold, Taaza, Shakti and Cow Milk.
That increase, which took effect May 14, represented a price adjustment of approximately 2.5% to 3.5% per liter.
At the time, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under the Amul brand, attributed the higher milk prices to increasing production and operating expenses.
The federation cited rising costs for cattle feed, packaging materials and fuel, along with higher procurement payments to dairy farmers through its member unions.
The latest price increases come during India’s festive season, a period when demand for ghee and butter typically rises as households prepare traditional dishes, sweets and other foods associated with celebrations.
The revised prices are now being implemented across retail outlets and e-commerce platforms throughout the country. (Source: IANS)
