NEW DELHI— India is at the forefront of a transformative shift in how people experience reality, and Qualcomm Technologies envisions a future where smart glasses become as essential to daily life as smartphones, seamlessly managing everyday tasks, the global chip leader said on Monday.
Qualcomm kicked off its “Snapdragon for India – XR Day” event in New Delhi, bringing together leading technologists, developers, partners, media, and content creators to accelerate the growth of spatial computing in India.
The event featured immersive demonstrations and real-world applications across entertainment, content creation, fitness, and education, highlighting Qualcomm’s leadership in smart glasses and extended reality (XR).
According to Alex Katouzian, Group General Manager of Mobile, Compute & XR (MCX) at Qualcomm Technologies, over 100 immersive devices worldwide have been powered by Snapdragon XR platforms, delivering top-tier experiences in mixed reality (MR), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR).
During the event, Katouzian showcased a small language model (SLM) running entirely on a pair of AI glasses—demonstrating the Snapdragon platform’s capability to handle AI across cloud, local, and on-device environments.
As part of its vision, Qualcomm is collaborating with partners like Lenskart to develop smart glasses powered by Snapdragon chipsets—aiming to bring cutting-edge, AI-enabled wearable tech to Indian consumers.
“Snapdragon platforms are engineered to strike a balance between sleek, lightweight design and powerful performance, making smart glasses both practical and intuitive for everyday use,” said Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm India. “This milestone marks a new era of spatial computing in India and strengthens the country’s position in the global immersive tech ecosystem.”
Aligned with the goals of Viksit Bharat (Developed India), Qualcomm’s technology is expected to empower frontline workers, revolutionize education in remote regions, and foster inclusive digital access, Soin added.
As Qualcomm expands its footprint beyond smartphones, the company remains committed to driving transformative innovation across industries and advancing India’s leadership in spatial computing technologies. (Source: IANS)
