NEW DELHI — Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said Thursday that he held “very fruitful discussions” with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, focusing on expanding trade and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
Goyal said he hosted Lutnick and Gor for talks aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and deepening engagement across sectors. “Hosted US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. Engaged in very fruitful discussions to expand our trade and economic partnership,” he wrote on social media platform X.
The meeting comes as India continues efforts to expand its global trade footprint and strengthen economic relationships with key international partners. The government has been seeking broader market access for Indian businesses while encouraging greater participation in global value chains.
Goyal has previously noted that India has concluded nine free trade agreements covering 38 countries, providing Indian companies with preferential access to nearly two-thirds of global trade. He said those agreements are helping Indian goods, services, agricultural and fisheries products, and labor-intensive sectors reach new markets while improving talent mobility.
According to the minister, the vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” is not rooted in isolation but in building resilient, trusted, and diversified supply chains through global engagement. He has repeatedly urged entrepreneurs and industry leaders to extend global opportunities to MSMEs, farmers, exporters, and fishermen nationwide.
Speaking recently at the 27th edition of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards in Mumbai, Goyal said India’s growth trajectory will continue to be powered by its entrepreneurs and youth, expressing confidence that the country will advance toward developed-economy status by 2047 during what he described as the “Amrit Kaal.” (Source: IANS)
