New Delhi– Linda Yaccarino announced on Wednesday that she is stepping down as CEO of X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, nearly two years after taking the helm.
In a statement shared on her official X handle, Yaccarino expressed deep gratitude to Musk for the opportunity.
“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏,” she wrote. “X is truly a digital town square for all voices and the world’s most powerful culture signal.”
Yaccarino was brought on board in 2023, following Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in a $44 billion deal in 2022. She was tasked with leading the company through a transformative period as it rebranded to X and pursued Musk’s ambitious vision of building an “everything app.”
“When @elonmusk and I first spoke about his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime,” she said. “I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”
Yaccarino did not disclose a specific reason for her departure but reflected on her contributions to the platform.
She noted that her role began with “the critical early work necessary to prioritize the safety of our users — especially children — and to restore advertiser confidence.” She also credited her team for innovations such as Community Notes and teased future features like “X Money,” which aims to bring iconic voices and premium content to the platform.
Yaccarino also referenced the recent merger of xAI — Musk’s artificial intelligence startup — with X. “The best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with @xai,” she said.
Praising her team as “the most innovative in the world,” Yaccarino thanked her colleagues, users, and business partners for their support during her tenure.
“I’ll be cheering you all on as you continue to change the world,” she said. “As always, I’ll see you on X.” (Source: IANS)
