NEW DELHI — Google on Tuesday announced that users in India can now store Aadhaar-based verifiable credentials in Google Wallet, allowing them to confirm their identity digitally for a range of everyday uses.

The feature, developed in partnership with the Unique Identification Authority of India, enables on-device identity verification using global standards and privacy-focused tools such as selective disclosure, ensuring that only the necessary information is shared when required.

Google said the capability is designed for practical use cases, including age verification for entertainment and secure interactions across online services. Early partners include PVR INOX for age checks and rewards tied to movie viewing, BharatMatrimony for verified “Prime” profiles, and Atlys for simplifying international visa applications with auto-filled details.

Additional integrations are planned, with Mygate expected to support verification for delivery and service personnel in residential communities, and Snabbit aiming to streamline identity checks for gig economy workers.

“Security, privacy, and interoperability are at the foundation of our approach to digital identity, and are built into every layer of this integration,” the company said in a statement.

Google also said it is expanding its digital ID features globally, enabling users in Singapore, Taiwan, and Brazil to create ID passes based on passport information and store them in Google Wallet. The company said the feature provides a simple and private way to verify identity or age for both in-person and online services.

The move is part of a broader push toward digital identity solutions that reduce reliance on physical documents while maintaining user control over personal data.

Separately, Google recently expanded its “Search Live” feature worldwide, allowing users to engage in real-time, interactive conversations with Search using voice and camera capabilities across more than 200 countries and territories.

The company said the rollout is powered by its Gemini 3.1 Flash Live model, which is designed to deliver more natural, intuitive, and multilingual interactions. (Source: IANS)
